The Gift That Keeps on Giving: #GLOBEProjectWonderful2014

I’m on a roll here, people. Second blog post in just a matter of minutes. Okay. So here’s the pageant-worthy question from Nuffnang and Globe:

REV2Wonderful2014 If there is one thing I can give to the Philippines, what is that gift? After reading this question over and over, I could think of a lot of things that this country needs. At the top of my head is PROPER EDUCATION. I think this will solve most of our problems. If Filipinos have proper education, we would all get jobs we’re qualified for. We would think better and make better life decisions. I think we wouldn’t have to be told twice that we need to evacuate as soon as possible, because we would have reasonable minds.

But if it really has to be a thing, something tangible, I’d have to say I’d give the Philippines a dam or flood barrier or better sewerage system that will prevent flooding when a typhoon hits the country. We didn’t have this problem before. We can say that its global warming or whatever but that is still nature. And our best defense against nature is to adapt and find ways to survive. I have no idea how it’ll work but I hope we can find better ways of dealing with flood.

If that still isn’t tangible enough, I guess the most practical gift I can give the country is better rescue equipment. Boats or helicopter and/or life vestsMedical supplies and evacuation centers. Filipinos are somewhat hard-headed when news about a typhoon come out, and if we can’t beat them, we can be ready for whatever will come.

I hope #GLOBEProjectWonderful2014 can do something about this. There has been a lot of government involvement, NGOs, fund drives, etc. but it doesn’t seem enough. If there’s one thing you can give to the Philippines, why not write about it and join Nuffnang and Globe’s giveaway? You may get your wish granted and even win an iPad Air.
