The Past (2011-2020)

13/52 Hunger Games with Friends [and a short review of the film]

The Hunger Games was released last March 23 and I planned to watch on its opening day but a friend offered to treat us out. What’s better than a free movie and dinner out? Free movie and dinner with good company. 😀

Come to think of it, it would have been a lot cheaper if I just walked to the mall near our house and watched the movie alone than to gas up and pay for mall parking to meet with them, but I’ve been locked up in the house for so long so I chose to spend time with friends.

For week 13: March 25-31

Top: Jepoy and Rochelle
Bottom: me, Euri, and Glen

Monday was the most available time for everyone so we met up in Glorietta4 at around 8pm. The movie started at 9pm and we got in just in time, a few minutes before it started. I was surprised to find out that I was the only one who read the books, they all had no idea what it was about so I told them some people say it’s a ripoff of Battle Royale, something I haven’t read or seen so I can’t judge.

The movie was pretty good, I think they did a good job with it. I was expecting more blood and fight scenes though but that may only be because I’ve been watching too much Spartacus. I didn’t expect it to be as detailed as the book was, there’s time restriction and most of the details were changed, characters were omitted. In the book, the story was told in Katniss’ point-of-view so majority of what was shown on film was what she experienced. All in all, it was good.

The annoying thing was, there was a gay guy sitting behind us that won’t stop talking. When the movie began, he started guessing what the movie was about. It was obvious he hasn’t read the book and he kept repeating/telling his friend what was happening when everyone in the theater can see what was happening. Euri got pissed and told him off, but he clearly didn’t give a f*ck because he still kept talking. After a while I turned to look at him and said “Excuse me, hindi ka ba pwede manahimik? Kanina ka pa, ang ingay ingay mo.” (Can’t you stop talking? You’ve been talking talking non-stop since the movie started.) He looked back and I stared at him a full 2-seconds before turning my focus back at the movie. He finally shut up. Hahaha!

After the movie, we went to Shakey’s near A.Venue and Jepoy paid for food. Yay! Hahaha!
